I joined the US Army in 1989, as a combat medic.  I trained on my buddies, simulators, animals and cadavers. There was little feedback, and a checklist whether I did procedures correct or not. All the training I was lucky to receive didn't prepare me for real world injuries.  So, I set on a path to make better training models.  I then spent over 25 years in academic research, beginning at the University of Minnesota Medical School, learning the science of making artificial tissues. I then moved with a team to the University of Washington, Department of Surgery, to expand our research capabilities. I was part of an amazing team, making amazing things.  But these "products" were not commercially available, so I left academia in 2018 to learn what industry can do to help.  After a few great projects, I decided that I needed to forge my own path, and make models that truly satisfied the training needs of our first responders and clinical teams. Hence TITAN Simulation was born, in 2022.  Two years later, and we are ready to show our models.  My goal is to provide the best training models, with a focus on anatomy, and engineer when necessary for assessment and feedback.  Let's get towards objective assessment for skills training with metrics that help everyone provide safer patient care.

TITAN Simulation is Twin Cities based, veteran owned, small business that delivers the highest quality, most realistic, medical education models ever created.

We aim to reduce medical error with low cost models created in our image, for your knowledge. Our models are a display of the physiology of the patient. As an educator, you will never have to supplement your simulation with “the patient is now cool and clammy, and pale,” as our models do that. You have what you have is what we create.

We have developed a thorough and efficient method for model development: Much like software, we use agile and scrum.

  • We conduct translational science R&D in emulating tissues through Material Science, Engineering, and Art. This is where simulation sciences get real.
  • We create patient specific functional anatomical models that are the display of the patient’s physical findings. These are simulators that look and feel like real people, representing the age, gender, BMI, ethnicity, and pathologies of all humans.
  • Requirements development, gap analysis, educational needs analysis, Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA), latent error identification and planning al create knowledge of the educational environment, methods, and research platforms for outcomes based objective quantification of performance. We must catch up to the aviation industry and support the maturation and accountability of medical and patient education.
  • Functional model development using Quality Functional Design (QFD) with clinically relevant metrics, fidelity analysis (tissue, anatomic, functional, affective), prototyping through commercialization, sales and distribution, and customer service / support.

We support your Investigational New Device (IND) development with patient specific synthetic tissues that are manufactured with ISO 9001 / 13485 standards. This process creates known engineering constraints consistent for medical device verification up to phase IV of FDA approval without human

trials.

Core Values

  • Innovation and education excellence – to jump off the shoulders of the innovation giants with rapid adoption of technology from larger disciplines.
  • Diversity and inclusion – to create models that look and feel like real people, ALL people need to be included in the process.
  • Social responsibility –reduce clinical error by giving leaners the opportunity to make errors and develop their cognitive, psychomotor, and communication skills BEFORE they do it for the first time on a patient.
  • Environment Reduce, Re-Use, Re-cycle –polymers into our landfills. Re-use tissues and models, and re-cycle materials to reduce costs.

TITAN will listen to the needs of our patients and providers to develop and deliver training models that support clinical training transfer with measurable results.

Our solution is to use better materials, recipes, methods, and represent the physical

anatomy and presentation of physiological features, to better train our providers. If they have not ever seen or performed the procedure, we want to expose them to it, train on it, make mistakes and learn from them, BEFORE they ever do it on YOU and ME!

With over 38 years of experience, TITAN Simulation has its origins in the military, as

soldiers, medics, and providers in the U.S. Army. With numerous combat experiences, this team understands point of injury care like no other. Members of the team then combined over 19 years in academia at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s SimPORTAL, and CREST.

Troy Reihsen, President / CEO is directly responsible for the originating, applying,  managing, and operating the largest medical simulation portfolio in academic and DoD research with over $50M in funding.

In 2019, due to many lab created products not making it to market as commercial products, we made the move to Industry, learning manufacturing, assembly, costing, sales and distribution over 3 years.

The time came to create our own entity to support better models, with a more efficient, cost effective, and TEAM based approach to model development. We now have ownership and license to 3 patents and have 12 more in the works.

Veteran-Owned Small Business

U.S. Small Business Administration Veteran-Owned Certified.

Why choose us?

Here are 6 reasons to seek out and support veteran businesses:

  • It’s estimated by the U.S. Small Business Administration that veterans are 45 percent more likely to be self-employed than non-veterans. This may be in part because we have a unique skill set to share and they have been taught leadership skills in the military that are a great foundation for entrepreneurship.
  • We come into the business world with experiences and stories that at times makes us feel that we are more fit for owning our business than anything else. We tend to have a high success rate because we are not afraid of the hard work, discipline, and dedication that it takes to be a business owner.
  • When people help veteran businesses succeed, they are giving thanks and giving back to those who helped protect the country. Supporting their business is one way of saying thank you and giving something back to them that is meaningful.
  • Veteran businesses employ around 6 million employees around the country, so when you support the business you are also supporting everyone else who works for that company.
  • When a veteran’s business succeeds, it will have a positive impact on their community, as well as the country. Thriving businesses are good for communities and for the economy.
  • Conducting ongoing business with veteran-owned businesses is an act of patriotism. It helps to show one’s support for the military, and it shows current military members that once they become a civilian they may also be supported in their quest for a being a successful entrepreneur.

“At times, there may not be an option to support a veteran-owned business, but when there is, it’s a good idea to show your support. It will go a long way toward helping those who helped us all.”
